Australia’s AirTrunk has completed the third phase of its SYD2 data center campus in the north of Sydney, Australia.
The operator said it had successfully added 30MW of capacity to the 120MW+ campus. The expansion broke ground in June 2023 and was topped out in November last year.
The SYD2 campus is set on four hectares of land and features 24 data halls spanning 28,000 sqm (312,000 sq ft), with a PUE of 1.15.
The campus first launched in March 2021, just 16 months after plans were announced in November 2019.
An application filed in February this year suggested that the Australian operator was adding another facility to the campus in a third phase. AirTrunk is yet to confirm the data center development.
AirTrunk also has the SYD1 campus in the Australian City, which was completed in July 2022, as well as a third in development that will ultimately offer 320MW across nine phases.
AirTrunk tops out TOK2 data center in Western Tokyo
In Japan, AirTrunk has announced it has topped out the second phase of its Western Tokyo data center, TOK2.
In a LinkedIn post, the company said TOK2 is projected to be one of the largest data centers in Japan, joining TOK1 and another facility in Osaka.
The operator broke ground on the second phase in February. The first phase, launched in May this year, saw 30MW of capacity go live.
Plans for the 110MW campus were first shared in May 2022.
Set on 4.6 hectares, the build-out of TOK2 is being financed by a green loan.
APAC-focused operator AirTrunk was founded in 2016 with plans to develop hyperscale data centers in Australia. The company opened its first facility in Sydney in 2017, and has since expanded across the region, operating and developing campuses in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Blackstone has reportedly won the race to acquire the Australian operator and is set to pay AU$20 billion (US$13.5bn), but the companies are yet to officially announce the news.
Macquarie Group and PSP Investments, which currently own a majority stake in AirTrunk, are in discussions with Blackstone to finalize a deal. Reports that AirTrunk was up for sale first surfaced in January this year.
