Japanese telco SoftBank Corp has announced it will shut down its 3G network on January 31, 2024.
SoftBank said the move will allow it to focus on its existing 4G and 5G networks instead.
The Switch-off date announcement falls in line with the company's statement last year.
SoftBank has told its customers who are using 3G handsets and price plans that from February 1, 2024, they will be unable to use its communication services.
The telco has even warned it will automatically cancel 3G plans from February 1, 2024.
Rival Japanese telco KDDI called time on its 3G network in March 2022.
A number of mobile operators have switched off, or are in the process of switching off their 3G networks.
Crnogorski Telekom revealed yesterday it will call time on its 3G network by the end of the year in Montenegro.
Last week, Slovak Telecom confirmed it will begin its 3G shutdown this month.
Elsewhere, Telia Finland kicked off its 3G network switch-off earlier this month, while its Danish and Lithuanian businesses have already retired their respective 3G networks.
In the UK, EE confirmed it will begin its 3G switch-off in January 2024, while Virgin Media O2 will switch off its 3G network in 2025.
