GreenSquareDC has gained planning permission for a new data center in Perth, Australia.
The project’s Development Application (DA) was approved by Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment panel members at a meeting on October 17.
As previously reported by DCD, GreenSquareDC is looking to develop a 96MW campus in Western Australia that it says will be the largest in the region.
Located in Belmont, the company is looking to develop a four-story data center with 68,000 sqm of gross floor area on 38,000sqm of land. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2023, with completion of the first stage estimated by mid-2024.
The land is owned by Bulong Pty Ltd and is currently a large parking lot adjacent to various warehouses and industrial buildings. Some of these buildings would be demolished as part of the new development.

GreenSquareDC is a new company that describes itself as an ‘emerging sustainability-oriented data center provider.’ CEO Coulston is also Managing Director at Sydney-based real estate firm CK Property Group,

Though Western Australia is not traditionally a major data center market compared to the likes of Sydney and Melbourne, the likes of Equinix, DC Two, and NextDC all operate at least one facility in Perth. Stack is also planning a facility in the city after acquiring Australian real estate developer Hickory’s data center projects. The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is also located in Perth.
