Australian colo provider DC Two has opened its data center in Perth.

The company’s Bibra Lake data center is now fully operational in its ‘Stage 1’ configuration. Phase 2 will see the company build towards Tier III accreditation.

The company leased the 5,000 sq m (53,800 sq ft), 3MW facility after prior tenants vacated before finishing the AU$10 million (US$7.7 million) project, leaving the landlord with a nearly-finished, design-accredited data center with no route to completion or market. The facility's previous Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute lapsed in December 2018.

“This is a fantastic milestone for the Company. We have essentially taken a dormant building and transformed it into a fully operational data center within a 6-month period, which is an impressive achievement within the industry, especially during this challenging Covid period,” said DC Two MD Justin Thomas. “Focus and resources will now be put towards onboarding customers and the completion and accreditation of the Tier III facility (Stage 2).”

Founded in 2012, DC Two also operates a 0.2MW facility in Osborne Park, in the northwest of Perth. The company also has two modular data centers with a third in development; a 2MW facility outsite Perth on a wind farm; a 2MW facility on a biomass facility in Victoria; and a 2MW solar-powered data center due for deployment in Collie, Western Australia.

The company was listed on the Australian ASX index in November 2020 with a market cap of Aus $11.7 million (US$9 million).
