Google has launched a new cloud region in Mexico.

The company said it was "delighted to announce the opening of our 41st cloud region in Querétaro, Mexico,”

It explained: “From Querétaro, we'll provide fast, reliable cloud services to businesses and public sector organizations throughout Mexico and beyond. This new Google Cloud region is also a step towards providing generative AI products and services to Latin American customers.”

The search giant first announced plans for a Mexican region in July 2022, but didn’t include details on location or timelines. It confirmed the region would be in Querétaro last year.

The region marks’ the search and cloud company’s third in Latin America, joining Santiago, Chile, and São Paulo, Brazil.

All of the major US hyperscalers are looking to Mexico, with most of them focused on Querétaro.

Oracle launched its first Mexican cloud region in Querétaro in June 2022. It is the company's first in the country. This was shortly followed by the announcement of a second in September 2022 which will be hosted in an América Móvil-owned Telmex data center.

AWS already has two CloudFront Edge locations, as well as a Local Zone Edge location in Querétaro, and is reportedly planning a full cloud region there.

After announcing plans in 2020, Microsoft launched its first Mexican Azure cloud region, in Querétaro State, in May of this year. The company has since announced plans to invest another $1.3 billion in Mexico to “enhance AI infrastructure.”

Huawei has two Mexican cloud regions near Mexico City.

Colocation and wholesale providers in the area include Kio, OData, Ascenty, and Layer 9.
