Brian Marrs

Senior Director, Energy & Carbon Removal, Microsoft

Brian Marrs is the Senior Director of Energy & Carbon Removal at Microsoft, based out of the company’s Redmond, WA headquarters. With more than 15 years of global commercial experience in the cloud and energy industries, Brian drives efforts to execute Microsoft’s datacenter energy and carbon negative strategies, and has led teams focused on energy infrastructure planning, energy supply agreements, utility partnerships, and most recently, carbon removal.

Prior to joining Microsoft in 2017, Brian served as the Director of Policy & Strategy at NRG Energy, the largest competitive power company in the United States. In addition, Brian worked as a power systems economist in the European Union at the German Energy Agency and Vattenfall Europe, and has extensive consulting experience in quantitative analytics related to global power, oil, and gas markets. He served as a delegate economist to five UNFCCC COP delegations and an UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Brian holds graduate degrees in energy economics & policy from Yale University, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia.
