Nvidia is said to be in talks to provide financial backing to Nscale for its 460MW data center project being developed for Anthropic.
As per a report from The Information, citing people with knowledge of the deal discussions, an agreement could see Nvidia providing billions in credit guarantees for debt related to the build-out.
Nscale reportedly signed its second contract with Anthropic in October 2026. Both agreements were valued at around $45 billion, and for 460MW of capacity each at the company's upcoming Monarch Compute Campus in West Virginia.
The Monarch campus in West Virginia is Nscale's largest project, with the company acquiring the 2,250-acre site in March 2026.
The site has the potential to have up to 8GW of capacity, with the first phase planned at 2GW and expected to be online by the first half of 2028. Power will be provided by Caterpillar's fast-response natural gas generator sets – the Caterpillar G3500 series.
According to The Information, the credit support agreement would cover the power and construction for the first data center building Anthropic contracted, which will house Nvidia Vera Rubin hardware.
The Nvidia backstop is estimated to amount to more than $5bn, and would enable Nscale to secure debt for the project's buildout, with Nvidia serving as a guarantor should Nscale default on payments.
DCD has contacted Nscale and Nvidia for comment.
Nscale is currently preparing for its Initial Public Offering (IPO), having filed in September 2026. Later that month, the company raised $3.36 billion in private funding.
Nvidia is a major investor in several neoclouds - themselves some of the chip designer's biggest customers. The company has invested an estimated $170 billion in neoclouds and large customers, including through credit guarantees for their buildouts.
In late October, Nvidia was reportedly in talks to invest several hundred million dollars in Aussie neocloud Firmus after the company pulled out of its own IPO.
