Microsoft has signed a 12-year carbon offtake agreement with Vaulted Deep that will see the removal of up to 4.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The agreement will enable Vaulted to expand its operations to new sites across the US.
Also last week, Palo Alto Networks signed a deal with 1PointFive for 10,000 tonnes of carbon removal credits.
Vaulted Deep removes carbon by storing organic waste that contains atmospheric CO2 underground, working with municipalities, industrial operators, and agricultural products to manage organic waste that can't be reused or applied to land.
The waste includes materials like biosolids, manure, paper sludge, and food and agricultural residues, and is stored via deep well injection in geologic formations sealed by impermeable rock layers.

According to Vaulted, the company has thus far removed almost 18,000 tonnes of CO2. Its operations are permitted in multiple US states, including California and Kansas, where it has ongoing operations with both Los Angeles and the City of Derby.
Microsoft is one of the largest carbon credit purchasers. 2025 alone has seen it sign deals to purchase 2.95 million tons of removal credits from a CCS project in Denmark, a 2.6 million credit deal with sustainable farming group Agoro Carbon Alliance, and a 44,000 credit deal with biochar firm Carba.
Palo Alto Networks purchases 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal credits from 1PointFive
Palo Alto Networks is also getting into the carbon removal game.
The company has bought 10,000 tons of Direct Air Capture (DAC) carbon removal credits over a period of five years, produced from 1PointFive's Stratos DAC facility in Texas.
The credits are stored via saline sequestration.

Amazon has previously purchased 250,000 metric tons of carbon removal over 10 years from 1PointFive's Texas DAC plant.
1PointFive is a subsidiary of the fossil fuel company Occidental Petroleum. In addition to sequestering carbon underground in saline formation, the company also plans to use carbon for the production of hydrocarbons to enable 'lower-carbon' fuels, and in products like chemicals and building materials, which would mean carbon is not added to the atmosphere, but it is equally not sequestered.
