Telco Yettel Hungary has confirmed it will switch its 3G network off next month.
In a statement, the mobile operator revealed that the legacy service will be retired on November 13, 2023.
In doing so, Yettel will become the last Hungarian mobile network operator to turn off its 3G mobile network.
Magyar Telekom was the first Hungarian telco to fully close its 3G network in mid-2022, followed by Vodafone Hungary, which did so earlier this year.
Yettel noted that it's turning off 3G services operating in the 2,100MHz frequency band, after switching off the part operating in the 900MHz frequency band last year.
The operator said has so far switched off 3G around Lake Balaton and Lake Velence, which also affected the entire area of Veszprém and Székesfehérvár.
A number of mobile operators have switched off, or are in the process of switching off their 3G networks.
Slovak Telecom confirmed it will begin its 3G shutdown this month, while Crnogorski Telekom said it will call time on its 3G network in Montenegro by the end of the year.
Elsewhere, Telia Finland kicked off its 3G network switch-off earlier this month, while its Danish and Lithuanian businesses have already retired their respective 3G networks.
In the UK, EE confirmed it will begin its 3G switch-off in January 2024, while Virgin Media O2 will switch off its 3G network in 2025.
