Stack Infrastructure has launched a new data center in Toronto, Canada.

The company this week announced the delivery of the first 8MW phase of the 56MW campus in the Ontario province.

First Gulf, a developer in Toronto, partnered with Stack to deliver the initial 8MW data center by renovating an existing building on the 20-acre site.

Stack first announced plans for the campus, located at 3650 Danforth Avenue around 10km (six miles) from downtown Toronto, in May 2021. The first phase was originally set to go live in "mid-2022."

“In a market that continues to see a high absorption rate for data center capacity, Stack is proud to deliver the first phase of our Toronto campus,” said Brian Cox, CEO of Stack Americas. “We look forward to deploying the next phase of this flagship campus to address our clients’ needs while vitalizing the local economy.”

The next 24MW phase of development is planned for delivery in the second quarter of 2026. The third phase will offer a further 24MW.

The second phase will see hydroelectric power delivered by Toronto Hydro from three diverse substations.

The site, in the suburb of Scarborough, was previously home to the Canadian manufacturing operations of US pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly. The company closed the facility in 2019 after 70 years and relocated its offices in downtown Toronto.

The original campus announcement was Stack’s first international expansion, but the IPI-owned company has since expanded with projects in Australia, Japan, Germany, and South Korea; and acquired existing facilities across Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

Stack has another Canadian data center in Calgary.
