Prime Data Centers is looking to build a $1.3 billion data center campus in Caldwell County, outside of Austin, Texas.
The development will be located along Farm to Market Road 2720 in the county and will be a "turn-key" data center campus, as reported by the Austin Business Journal.
Limited information about the development has been shared, including the principals behind the project.
The developers are linked to "Project Snow," which is an unidentified economic development initiative that was voted for on January 23. No information about that initiative has been shared at the time of writing.
The parcel in question spans 206 acres and is owned by Neimann Farm Partners LP, which is linked with real estate brokerage La Tierra Realty LLC.
The Caldwell County Commissioners Court is set to discuss potential financial incentives for the development on March 12, including three tax abatement agreements for the construction, and possibly establishing a tax increment reinvestment zone for the site.
Prime's current portfolio is centered around California, with campuses also in development in Chicago, Illinois, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Elsewhere in Texas, Prime Data Centers recently filed for a three-story data center in Dallas. That project, next to a former Carrier-1/Evocative data center taken over by Prime, has an estimated budget of $22m.
Other developers in Austin include Prologis and Skybox, which have two developments in the area; the Skybox Austin 2 which is a 30MW data center development, and Skybox Hutto 1 which is planned to eventually be a 600MW campus. The two companies are also working on a 100MW campus in the Plano area of Dallas.
Cloud providers are also looking at developments in Texas. In September 2023, Google announced that it was planning a $330m data center campus in Red Oak, and the December of that same year saw plans shared by Amazon for a data center in Round Rock.
