Meta has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Engie North America for 600MW of solar power from Engie’s new Swenson Ranch Solar project in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, Texas.

The entire capacity of the 600MW project will be supplied to Meta under the agreement. The project, which is the largest asset in Engie’s portfolio, is expected to reach operation in 2027.

"We are excited to continue the expansion of our relationship with Meta," said Dave Carroll, CEO and chief renewables officer, Engie North America. "Our objective is to bring reliable, cost-competitive power to the grid as rapidly as possible, and projects like Swenson demonstrate the importance of solar to meet the timely needs of our customers."

Following the PPA, Meta has now signed agreements totaling more than 1.3GW of power with Engie across four projects in Texas.

"We are thrilled to bring an additional 600MW of solar energy to the grid, and expand our partnership with Engie to 1.3GW," said Urvi Parekh, head of global energy at Meta. "Our collaboration with Engie enables us to continue matching 100 percent of our electricity use with clean and renewable energy to support our data center operations."

Previous deals include an Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA) for 200MW of power from the Anson 2 solar project in Jones County, northwest of Abilene.

Before this, in November, the two companies inked an EAPA that will see Engie supply Meta with the entire output of its 260MW Sypert Branch solar project in Milam County, Texas. The project, located approximately ten miles (16km) from Meta’s data center in Temple, is expected to commence operations in late 2025.

Meta is currently expanding its presence in the Lone Star state. Earlier this month, the company broke ground on its new 1GW data center in El Paso, Texas, with some $1.5 billion set to be invested in the first phase of development. Previous reports suggest there could be up to five phases of development, each totaling around 800,000 sq ft (74,320 sqm).

The campus will be Meta’s third in Texas. The company has data center campuses in Fort Worth and Temple in the state. It also operates sites nearby in neighboring Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Mesa, Arizona.
