Meta has upped its planned investment in a data center development in El Paso, Texas.

In a blog post shared by the company, Meta revealed that the company will invest $10 billion in the campus, which will have up to 1GW of capacity.

News that Meta was targeting a site in El Paso surfaced in late 2023, with the company operating behind the WurldWide LLC affiliate to acquire more than 1,000 acres of land in the northeast of the city. Originally, the company said it would invest $1.5 billion in the first phase, with up to five phases expected.

Each would see the construction of around 800,000 sq ft (74,320 sqm) of data center space.

According to the company, along with the increased investment, the site's construction needs will also grow, and an expected 4,000 construction workers will be on site at the peak of development. Once completed, 300 full-time jobs are expected to be created at the site.

Meta has also pledged to provide a $500,000 grant that will support a new workforce development effort in partnership with El Paso public schools, to restore 200 percent of the water consumed by the data center to local watersheds, and to add enough clean and renewable energy to the El Paso grid to match 100 percent of the electricity used by the data center.

Ground was broken on the project in October. In February 2026, the company revealed it would deploy 813 modular gas generators, slated to come online by 2027, to power the site. This would total 366MW, and cost $473m.

El Paso, located in the west of Texas and close to the borders of Mexico and New Mexico, is not traditionally a major data center hub. Dallas, Austin, and sometimes Houston, all to the east of El Paso, are more popular with data center developers in Texas. Phoenix in Arizona, to the west of El Paso, is also a large data center market.

The campus will be Meta’s third in Texas. The company has data center campuses in Fort Worth and Temple in the Lone Star State. It also operates sites nearby in neighboring Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Mesa, Arizona.
