Indus Cloud and Chinese cloud provider Huawei are teaming up to develop a data center in Pakistan.

Details about the data center are limited, but it will be equipped with Huawei’s “latest technologies” including the PowerPod 3.0 which Huawei claims can reduce data center footprint by up to 40 percent and reduce energy consumption by 70 percent.

The data center will also use the Xinghe Intelligent Ultra-Resilient Data Center Network from Huawei to provide cloud services to Pakistani customers.

The partnership between Huawei and Indus Cloud, which is a subsidiary of Master Group of Industries, was first reported by Gwadar Pro.

The partnership is hoped to help Pakistan with the implementation of technologies, including AI, big data, and the Internet of Things.

Pakistan and China have long had a strong relationship, with China providing Pakistan with economic, technical, and military assistance in the past.

Pakistan has a relatively small data center market. According to Data Center Map, it currently has 25 data centers split between three markets: Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Operators include PTCL, Multinet, Chapal, Supernet, Cybernet, and Vision Telecom, among others.

Last October, Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Bank of Pakistan for the development of a data center.

Khazana Cloud and the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park have previously said they would launch a hyperscale data center in Pakistan that would be "powered by Huawei".

In June 2023, the University of Turbat in Pakistan launched a new data center. The first phase of completion coincided with the deployment of a 1MW solar project at the university.

Pakistani oil company Mari Petroleum Company Limited has previously announced the formation of a subsidiary focusing on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI). Further details weren’t shared.
