The National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) has partnered with Khazana Cloud to launch a data center in Pakistan.
The NASTP, led by the Pakistan Air Force, is an aerospace research and development hub with locations in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, and Kamra.
The data center will be powered by Huawei and is set to deliver cloud and AI solutions via a NASTP cloud platform.
Specifications of the data center, including its location, have not been provided.
The organizations said the partnership will ensure all data resides securely within Pakistan borders in NASTP facilities, and will allow for ultra-low latency for critical applications.
Khazana Cloud is Pakistan’s first hyperscale cloud provider, powered entirely by Huawei. The company offers Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), Software-as-a-service (SaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions in Pakistan.
Huawei has been busy in recent weeks, having also partnered with Nicaragua’s National Council of Universities and Algeria’s government for data center builds.
Last month, Huawei partnered with the National Bank of Pakistan for a data center facility.
According to Data Center Map, Pakistan currently has 22 data centers split between three markets: Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Operators include PTCL, Multinet, Chapal, Supernet, Cybernet, and Vision Telecom among others. In June 2023, the University of Turbat in Pakistan launched a new data center. The first phase of completion coincided with the deployment of a 1MW solar project at the university.
Earlier this year, Pakistani oil company Mari Petroleum Company Limited announced the formation of a subsidiary focusing on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI). Further details weren’t shared.
