Huawei and the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) are partnering to build a data center.
The pair signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Huawei Connect 2024 Global Conference, as reported by the Pakistan Observer.
Details of the proposed facility were not shared, nor were other details of the deal.
The data center will include cloud service deployment and will be built to Tier-III standards.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to adopting advanced technologies that enhance our operational efficiency,” said Rehmat Ali Hasnie, president of the NBP.
Amin Manji, CTO at NBP, added: “Huawei’s expertise will be crucial in transforming our data management capabilities and ensuring the reliability of our systems.”
Last month, Huawei won a $3 million cloud computing contract from the United Bank for Africa (UBA), one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions.
According to Data Center Map, Pakistan currently has 22 data centers split between three markets: Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Operators include PTCL, Multinet, Chapal, Supernet, Cybernet, and Vision Telecom among others. In June 2023, the University of Turbat in Pakistan launched a new data center. The first phase of completion coincided with the deployment of a 1MW solar project at the university.
Earlier this year, Pakistani oil company Mari Petroleum Company Limited announced the formation of a subsidiary focusing on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI). Further details weren’t shared.
