Pakistani data center operator Sky47 has inaugurated an 8.5MW data center in Islamabad.

This is roughly half a year later than the estimate provided by Sky47’s parent company Mari Energies, which projected completion by the end of 2025.

Karakoram-01, named after the nearby mountain range, is located in Capital Smart City Islamabad, a planned residential and commercial development near the country’s capital city.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir were both present at the data center's inauguration on Friday, July 24.

Sky47 describes the facility as being designed for AI workloads and large-scale cloud deployments.

The company’s website says that it has more than three data centers with more than 50MW in capacity planned. Indus-01, which will be developed with China’s ZTE, will be located in Port Qasim, Karachi, and an unnamed data center will be built in Lahore.

Sky47 is a subsidiary of Mari Energies, an energy company largely owned by the Pakistani conglomerate, the Fauji Foundation, which is largely controlled by the Pakistani Armed Forces.
