The European Investment Bank will provide €43 million ($44.71m) in loans for the development of two data centers in Azerbaijan.
First reported by Azernews, the funding will be used to develop two data centers for AzInTelecom LLC which will be located Absheron and Hajigabul regions.
AzInTelecom operates under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and offers cloud solutions and telecom services.
Elkhan Azizov, chairman of the board of directors of AzInTelecom, said: "I hope that this project will provide a significant boost to the development of digital infrastructure in our country and elevate the ecosystem to a new level. As AzInTelecom, we will continue to work tirelessly to build a sustainable digital future for Azerbaijan."
Plans for the data centers were first revealed in November 2024, with AzInTelecom stating that they have received a Tier III Design certificate for the facilities.
AzInTelecom also stated that it would build the facilities to meet sustainability standards using "innovative approaches such as energy efficiency, efficient use of water, waste disposal, and natural cooling systems" and that solar panels will be installed onsite.
Earlier this year, Azerbaijan's National Depository Center (MDM) migrated its systems to AzInTelecom's data centers in Baku and Yevlakh. AzInTelecom's data center in Baku was launched in 2016 and is Tier III certified by Uptime Institute. The facility spans more than 700 sqm (7,535 sq ft), and is ISO 20000 and ISO 27001 certified.
