Azerbaijan's National Depository Center (MDM) has migrated its systems to the cloud.
As reported by Azertac, the MDM's systems and resources have been migrated to the Baku and Yevlakh data centers operated by AzInTelecom LLC under the country's Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
The MDM stores data from the Azerbaijani stock market including securities storage, registration of property rights, and post-trading on securities. The institution is the latest to move to the cloud following the 2019 creation of the Government Cloud through Decree No. 718 by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to Azertac's report, the migration will improve the availability of MDM's critical systems, and has also equipped the department with Microsoft products.
AzInTelecom will provide Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Backup-as-a-Service to the MDM.
AzInTelecom is responsible for the Government Cloud project and operates two data centers in Azerbaijan - one in Baku, and another in Yevlakh. The project involves partial or full migration to the data centers and is intended to reduce IT costs for government agencies while giving access to more sustainable and secure infrastructure.
Last month saw the Azerbaijan Tourism Board migrate all of its systems to the Government Cloud with AzInTelecom. In August the Azerbaijan Industrial corporations completed a partial migration. As of July 2024, 115 government agencies had migrated at least some systems to the Baku or Yevlakh data centers.
AzInTelecom's data center in Baku was launched in 2016 and is Tier III certified by Uptime Institute. The facility spans more than 700 sqm (7,535 sq ft), and is ISO 20000 and ISO 27001 certified. The company is currently constructing new data centers in Absheron and Hajigabul.
