Amazon Web Services (AWS) is planning another data center campus in Ohio.

As reported by Local12 and BizJournal, Amazon is eyeing a 601-acre site outside Cincinnati, in Madison Township and St. Clair Township, in Butler County, just south of the city of Trenton.

The largely undeveloped land sits along Wayne Madison Road and Hawkins Road, near Augspurger Road and the Great Miami River. The land is currently in the process of being annexed into Trenton.

Amazon is reportedly aiming to develop 18 buildings, each totaling around 220,000 sq ft (20,440 sqm), for a total of 3.96 million sq ft (367,895 sqm).

The site is close to a Duke Energy substation and the utility’s 692MW gas-powered Madison Power plant.

June saw Butler County officials approve a six-month moratorium on data centers. The six townships under the county’s zoning control (Hanover, Lemon, Madison, Milford, Oxford, and Ross) had all requested the board consider a temporary ban.

The city of Trenton acquired its share of the site, a 164-acre farmstead in Madison Township, in October 2025. According to city officials, the full scope of Amazon’s plans was not clear at the time of the purchase.

Prologis is developing a four-building campus near Amazon’s project. Construction on the first of four 220,000 sq ft (20,438 sqm) buildings could start later this year, with a 2028 launch, and all four buildings could be complete by 2029. Citing local officials, the press reports Amazon is the campus’ end user.

Elsewhere in Butler County, industrial development firm Logistix was granted planning approval for a data center project in Hamilton in 2024.

AWS looks to expand again in the Buckeye State

AWS already has a significant presence in Ohio, operating its US East region in the state with three availability zones. Each availability zone has at least one data center, but can have multiple.

In late 2024, AWS said it would invest $23 billion in Ohio by 2030. The company operates data centers across Franklin and Licking counties in Ohio, and is planning to build a five-building data center campus in New Albany.

It has previously expressed an interest in Pickaway County and shared plans to spend $2bn on a data center campus in Sunbury, Ohio.

Another campus in Fayette County, Southern Ohio, is also planned by AWS. News of the data centers first surfaced in November last year, with the company acquiring 590 acres in Jefferson Township in August 2025. Local filings suggest the campus could go live in 2026.

This year so far has seen AWS get approval for another campus in Ohio, located in Marysville, and in October 2025, AWS secured a tax break for a $3bn data center in Sidney, Ohio.

The company has also been looking to develop in Wilmington, but plans have reportedly stalled.
