EdgeConneX has broken ground on a new data center outside Osaka, Japan.

The company this week announced it has commenced development of its first 200MW, AI-ready data center campus in Greater Osaka, in partnership with Kagoya Asset Management.

The campus in Kyotanabe will span 130,000 sqm (1.4 million sq ft), with the first 28MW phase expected to be ready for service by the first quarter of 2028. It will offer liquid cooling.

EQT-backed EdgeConneX first announced its expansion into Japan with the Osaka facility in January 2025.

The company is also developing in Yawata, a city located in Kyoto Prefecture, in partnership with Keihan Real Estate. The first 36MW phase of that project is due to go live in 2028.

Founded in 2009, EdgeConneX has a global footprint of 80 data centers in operation or development across more than 50 markets across North America, Europe, APAC, and South America. The company was initially focused on smaller-scale data centers in the US, but has gradually expanded its scope and geography, moving into build-to-suit and hyperscale facilities.

Across Asia, the company has projects in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
