Indonesian B2B e-commerce platform Polibeli is looking at entering the AI data center business.

The company has stated that it is "evaluating opportunities" in the sector as part of a "broader long-term growth strategy."

In recent weeks, it has also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with companies to develop data centers in Indonesia and Thailand.

On June 30, Polibeli revealed it had entered into a non-binding MoU with Authaikam Company Ltd to evaluate the possibility of building an AI data center in Thailand. The MoU stated that the companies would conduct preliminary evaluation activities, including information exchange, site visits, land and power assessments, due diligence, and discussions regarding potential project development, with the data center potentially offering up to 100MW of capacity.

Two weeks later, a second non-binding MoU was announced, this time with PT Grosirone Prima Nusantara for an AI data center in Indonesia. The MoU similarly covers analysis of the project to study its viability, and is targeting a 10MW data center with a first phase between 2MW and 5MW.

Polibeli said in a statement: "The company believes that AI represents a significant long-term trend across the global technology landscape. Leveraging its regional presence, customer network, and experience in technology-enabled markets, the company intends to actively evaluate opportunities that may support its future growth and enhance value for customers and shareholders.

"The company will continue to assess developments within the AI computing infrastructure services and provide updates regarding material progress as appropriate."

Currently, Polibeli describes itself as an online wholesale platform to facilitate the sale and purchase of B2B products in Indonesia. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China's Xingyun International and was incorporated under the laws of the Cayman Islands in March 2024 as an exempted limited liability company. It has been trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange since August 2025.

Polibeli is the latest in a number of unexpected companies looking to get into the AI data center market. Former shoe company Allbirds is one of the more notable examples, having rebranded as Smartbird. Other examples include a Taiwanese whiskey importer, a recruitment website, a Singaporean healthcare company, an Indian TV production firm, a Chinese car loan financing company, an aviation operator, and an owner of Hard Rock Cafe franchises in Malaysia.
