Telkom Indonesia has landed a new subsea cable in Batam.

Telkom subsidiary Telin, BW Digital, and Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) this week announced the landing of the Nongsa Changi Cable (NCC) at NDP, Batam.

The new cable spans around 50km (31 miles) and offers 24 fiber pairs, linking Batam to Changi in Singapore.

Dian Siswarini, president director of Telkom Indonesia, said: “NCC represents a strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore in building a more connected and competitive digital ecosystem. This strategic infrastructure not only strengthens Indonesia’s digital connectivity and resilience, but also provides greater route diversity and enhanced connectivity for Singapore as a regional digital hub, creating mutual benefits for both countries.”

First announced in July 2024, NCC is one of two new Batam–Singapore subsea cable systems developed by Telkom Group, alongside the Indonesia Singapore Cable System (INSICA).

In Batam, the cable is set to land in BW Digital’s in-development NDP1 facility. In Changi, the cable integrates with Digital Realty’s SIN12 data center.

Batam is the largest city in the Riau Islands and is located close to Singapore, on the opposite side of the Singapore Strait. Though easing, Singapore’s ongoing data center moratorium means developments are spilling over to nearby Johor north of the border in Malaysia, and south to Batam.

NDP is now officially a new destination point for domestic and international subsea fiber optic cables, and we look forward to welcoming more in the near future.”

The landing ceremony was also attended by various executives and dignitaries, including Indonesia’s coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and Singapore’s deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong.

Hartarto said: “Indonesia’s digital transformation needs to be supported by robust physical infrastructure and increasingly strong connectivity. NCC serves as the physical foundation for a new digital corridor connecting Indonesia and Singapore, while further strengthening Batam’s position as Indonesia’s digital gateway. The presence of NCC is expected to reinforce the strategic position of both countries in the global digital ecosystem and value chain, while creating opportunities for greater investment, innovation, and new technology-driven economic activities.”

Batam and Singapore are currently connected by the BSCS, B2JS, B3JS, IGG, Matrix, MIC-1, PGASCOM, SEAX-1, and TIS cables. The upcoming Apricot, Asia Connect Cable-1 (ACC-1), and Hawaiki Nui 1 systems are all also set to connect the city-state with the Indonesian city. The Nongsa-Changi cable, however, is to be the first to land in the Nongsa Digital Park.

Founded in 2007, Telin’s infrastructure spans more than 300,000km (186,411 miles) of subsea fiber across 27 global networks.

BW Digital is the digital infrastructure arm of BW Group, a maritime and shipping conglomerate. The company owns and operates the Hawaiki subsea cable linking New Zealand and Australia to the US. The system was launched in 2018 by Hawaiki, which was acquired by BW Digital in May 2022. The firm is also developing an 144MW data center in Batam that was topped off in October 2025.
