The SL6 colocation facility currently provides nearly 90,000 sq ft (8,360 sqm) of raised floor space for compute resources along with 22MW of critical power.

The expansion, expected to be completed in Q1 of 2024, will add 25,000 sq ft (2,320 sqm) of raised floor space and 6MW of critical power.

First announced in August 2021 and opened last year and located at 14870 South Pony Express Road in Bluffdale, SL6 is on the DataBank Granite Point Campus. It was the fifth and final data center on the campus. DataBank operates another data center in downtown Salt Lake City.

“The SL6 expansion is primed to support the Salt Lake City area that is one of the fastest-growing technology hubs in the country,” said DataBank vice president of construction, Tony Qorri. “Our infrastructure resources are particularly helpful for data science innovation and supporting the region’s many tech startups. Salt Lake City is a go-to data center destination, not only for innovators but also as an alternative to expensive data centers in California.”

The company opened SLC5 in July 2020 and opened the data center’s third hall in May 2021. At SLC5’s opening, Martynek said plans were already being drawn up for SLC6, and in May the company revealed intentions to build a seventh facility in the city.

DataBank recently announced the completion of seven expansions across its US portfolio, and subsequently announced plans to expand its DFW3 facility in Dallas, Texas.
