Amazon Web Services (AWS) will spend an additional $13 billion on AI and cloud infrastructure in India.
This will bring its total investment in the country across all Amazon businesses to $48bn between 2026 and 2030.
The increased investment comes just six months after Amazon said it would spend $35bn in the country by 2030.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said: “For over a decade, we have been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups, and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses.
“As we grow Amazon in India, our business priorities align with India’s priorities of democratizing access to AI, digitizing small businesses, creating jobs, and enabling exports, and we are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help India achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, we are committed to being a long-term partner in India’s growth story.”
According to AWS, the additional $13bn will be used to expand its data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. How this will be split between the two regions has not been shared.
Amazon previously pledged $7bn to expand its data center footprint in Hyderabad in December 2025, and at the start of 2025, the company committed $8.3bn to its Mumbai region.
The Mumbai region launched in 2016. The company invested $3.7bn into that region between 2016 and 2022, and AWS later launched a cloud region in Hyderabad in 2022.
Already this year, AWS has revealed plans for a $430 million data center near Taloja, Navi Mumbai, India.
The other hyperscalers are also expanding dramatically in the country. In April 2026, Google broke ground on its $15bn data center project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and is set to land three new subsea cables in the country. Microsoft, meanwhile, announced a $17.5bn AI infrastructure investment in India in December 2025.
