Amazon Web Services (AWS) is planning to invest $429.8 million in a data center near Taloja, Navi Mumbai, India.

The cloud giant applied to the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority earlier this month for environmental clearance for the project, planned for a 49-acre plot of land.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, the company plans to construct six buildings on the site, four of which will have seven stories and serve as data centers. The remaining two buildings will have two stories and be used to support the electrical and water needs of the data centers.

The data centers will have a capacity of 473MW.

The plot of land near Taloja is within the boundaries of both Asode and Burdul villages. It was acquired by AWS in late 2024 from Macrotech Developers for Rs 450 crore ($48.35m). The company also acquired 38.18 acres of land from Lodha in Palava near Navi Mumbai in December 2024.

In December 2025, Amazon committed to investing $35 billion in India, including in data centers and AI infrastructure. Earlier that year, AWS revealed plans to spend $8.3bn in developing cloud infrastructure for just one of its cloud regions - AWS Asia-Pacific (Mumbai).

The Mumbai region launched in 2016. The company invested $3.7bn into that region between 2016 and 2022, and AWS later launched a cloud region in Hyderabad in 2022. Late last year, the company said it would spend a further $7bn expanding its data center footprint in Hyderabad.

Navi Mumbai, located just east of Mumbai, is home to a number of data centers. Operators already in the area include STT GDC, LNT, Sify, Colt, Equinix, and Bridge Data Centres.

An STT GDC project is also set for development near the AWS site, similarly bordering Asode and Burdul villages. A groundbreaking ceremony for the site was held in March 2026.
