Japanese technology giant SoftBank is apparently looking to use robots in data center construction.

As reported by the FT, WSJ, and others, SoftBank is looking to set up a new company called Roze AI.

The new venture will aim to use robotics to make data center construction in the US more efficient.

Full details haven’t been shared, but the company reportedly hopes to use autonomous robots to help construct the data centers, bundling some of its existing energy, land, and infrastructure bets together under Roze.

SoftBank is said to be eyeing an IPO for the new firm as soon as the second half of this year, potentially valuing the company at $100 billion.

The company did not respond to requests for comment from the FT or WSJ.

Robots within active data centers have been trialed in a number of locations, and 3D printing has previously been used to build a data center in Germany. Foxconn recently said it aims to deploy humanoid robots in its factories to manufacture servers.

SoftBank acquired ABB’s robotics division last year in a $5.4 billion deal. The firm’s other robotics investments include SoftBank Robotics Group Corp., Berkshire Grey, Inc., AutoStore Holdings Ltd., Agile Robots SE, and Skild AI, Inc., among others.

Last year, SoftBank detailed a new cableless server rack to enable robotic automation in data centers. The new design aims to help robots fulfill tasks such as the installation and removal of servers, replacing faulty units, and conducting inspections, the Japanese tech conglomerate said.
