Amazon Web Services (AWS) has signed an agreement with the Government of Telangana to significantly expand its data center footprint in the Indian state.

As reported by the Deccan Herald, AWS will invest $7 billion in its cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad over the next 14 years.

The state government will offer a package of "facilitation measures" and support to help AWS quickly scale up its infrastructure in the country.

A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana's Chief Minister, said: " We are delighted by the extraordinary confidence shown by global leaders like Amazon in Telangana. The scale of this commitment reflects the trust investors now place in our governance, stability, and long-term vision to propel Telangana towards its $3 trillion economy goal."

AWS India and South Asia president, Sandeep Dutta, added: " We look forward to contributing to Telangana’s vision of becoming a global technology hub by creating employment opportunities, supporting local businesses, and enabling a skilled workforce that will drive India’s digital economy forward."

AWS already has a significant presence in Hyderabad. The company launched its cloud region in the city in 2022, and was previously reported to be planning to invest significantly in the region.

In August 2024, AWS met with the IT and Industries Minister for Telangana to discuss future expansion in the state.

The commitment to Hyderabad comes just days after AWS parent company Amazon said it would invest $35bn in all of its businesses in India by 2030. While it was noted that this would include data centers and AI infrastructure, further details on how this capital would be distributed were not shared.

In January 2025, AWS committed $8.3bn to developing cloud infrastructure in one of its other cloud regions - AWS Asia-Pacific (Mumbai).

This week also saw Microsoft reveal that it would be spending $17.5bn on AI infrastructure in India by 2030. In October 2025, Google confirmed it was developing a $15bn data center project in Andhra Pradesh.
