Australian operator NextDC has topped out its latest data center in Darwin, in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The company announced the topping out of D2 Darwin on LinkedIn this week.

“Scheduled for completion in 1HFY27, D2 Darwin will add a further 6MW of AI-ready capacity in the Darwin CBD, extending resilient, mission-critical capability at the network Edge,” NextDC said.

First announced in 2021, work got underway on the original Darwin facility in 2023, with the data center launching in 2024. Located at 2 Harvey Street, D1 offers 1MW across 3,000 sqm (32,292 sq ft) of technical space and has capacity for 1,500 racks.

Company presentations suggest D2 will support Google’s Australia Connect initiative for the Bosun subsea cable system.

NextDC operates or is developing 20 data centers across Australia, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Port Hedland, Canberra, Adelaide, the Sunshine Coast, and Darwin.

Beyond Australia, NextDC currently has sites in planning or under evaluation in Tokyo, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; Johor and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Singapore.
