AI lab Anthropic has signed a $45 billion AI cloud capacity agreement with Nscale.

As reported by Bloomberg and citing people familiar with the agreement, Anthropic will lease 460MW of capacity for a period of six years from Nscale's campus in West Virginia.

The contract will cover Nvidia Vera Rubin AI chips at the site, which are expected to come online late next year.

Anthropic has been rapidly seeking to expand its compute capacity. The company reportedly has signed more than a dozen letters of intent for data center leases with multiple US developers, and is also looking to work with Google, in which the cloud and search giant would provide a financial guarantee for its lease payments, akin to the arrangement Google has with AI cloud Fluidstack.

Beyond data center capacity leases, the company has also turned to cloud providers for its compute capacity - having committed to renting more than 10GW of servers from cloud providers thus far, including a $200bn agreement signed with Google.

Anthropic has previously signed large cloud capacity deals with Akamai, Amazon Web Services – including a massive cluster of the cloud firm’s custom Trainium hardware, CoreWeave, and a $50bn partnership with AI cloud firm Fluidstack.

Nscale is currently developing the Monarch Compute Campus in West Virginia. The company acquired the 2,250-acre site in March 2026. The site has the potential to have up to 8GW of capacity, with the first phase planned at 2GW and expected to be online by the first half of 2028. Power will be provided by Caterpillar's fast-response natural gas generator sets – the Caterpillar G3500 series.

Microsoft has also signed on for 1.35GW of capacity at the site, for which Nscale is to set up a large-scale GPU deployment based on the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs.

The neocloud is currently preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), with reports emerging earlier this week that it was hoping the offering would raise around $3bn.
