AI cloud provider CoreWeave is set to provide AI company Anthropic with cloud compute capacity under a multi-year deal.

Revealed today, April 10, the value of the agreement has not been shared, nor have details about the hardware/instances Anthropic will be using.

DCD has contacted CoreWeave for further information.

Despite this, CoreWeave has stated that the compute for Anthropic will start coming online later this year, and Anthropic will be using CoreWeave's cloud platform to run workloads at "production scale."

It will take a phased approach, with the infrastructure roll-out able to "expand over time."

"AI is no longer just about infrastructure, it’s about the platforms that turn models into real-world impact,” said Michael Intrator, co-founder, CEO, and chairman of CoreWeave.

“We’re excited to work with Anthropic at the center of where models are put to work and performance in production shows up. It’s exactly the kind of real-world deployment of AI that CoreWeave was built for.”

It is something of an anomaly for CoreWeave not to disclose the value of a major customer contract of the ilk of Anthropic. Earlier this week, the AI cloud signed a $21bn AI compute contract with Meta, and has previously been open about the value of contracts with Anthropic competitor OpenAI, and chip designer Nvidia.

Anthropic, on the other hand, has on occasion kept quiet about its exact commitments. The AI startup recently committed to a deal with Broadcom and Google for the supply of 3.5GW of Google's TPUs, but did not state the value.

That announcement said that the "consumption of such expanded AI compute capacity by Anthropic is dependent on Anthropic’s continued commercial success. In connection with this deployment, the parties are in discussions with certain operational and financial partners.”

The company is also a known customer of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, and has previously projected its cloud spend to reach $80 billion for the period through 2029.
