OpenAI has expanded its contract with CoreWeave, with a new deal worth up to $6.5 billion.

The generative AI giant first announced a contract with CoreWeave in March valued at $11.9bn, and then added another contract worth up to $4bn in May. Altogether, OpenAI has committed to spend up to $22.4bn on CoreWeave services.

“This milestone affirms the trust that world-leading innovators have in CoreWeave’s ability to power the most demanding inference and training workloads at an unmatched pace.”

OpenAI's VP of infrastructure and industrial compute, Peter Hoeschele, added: “CoreWeave has become an important partner in OpenAI’s broader infrastructure platform. By delivering compute at unmatched speed and scale, they're helping us advance the frontier of intelligence and ensure AI's benefits reach everyone.”

The deal is the latest in a blockbuster month of OpenAI contracts, worth more than the company itself. OpenAI reportedly signed a $300bn deal with Oracle over five years, is planning to spend $100bn on backup cloud servers, announced Norwegian and UK Stargates, alongside five more US Stargate sites planned, and said it would deploy 'at least' 10GW of AI data centers with Nvidia hardware. That latter pledge was matched with a promise of up to $100bn from Nvidia.

It also has contracts with Google Cloud and Microsoft.
