APAC data center firm AirTrunk is expanding its footprint in Malaysia.

The Blackstone-owned company this week announced plans to invest $3 billion in two new facilities in Johor.

Located in Iskandar Puteri in Johor, JHB3 and JHB4 will offer more than 280MW of IT capacity. The two facilities will be located in close proximity to the company’s existing JHB1 and JHB2 campuses. The sites will use recycled water for their cooling systems.

The JHB1 campus was launched in July 2024. The initial phases of JHB1 provide more than 50MW of capacity for its large technology customers. It offers 21,900 sqm (235,750 sq ft) of space across 20 data halls and more than 150MW of capacity at full build-out.

The 270MW JHB2 facility was announced in February 2025.

At full build-out, AirTrunk said its Malaysian portfolio will total more than 700MW of IT load and see $6.8bn invested.

Founded in 2018, AirTrunk was acquired by Blackstone and CPPIB for US$16.1bn in 2024 in what was the largest-ever deal in the space at the time.

AirTrunk has data center campuses in operation and development in Sydney (x3) and Melbourne (x2) in Australia, as well as Singapore; Hong Kong; Johor, Malaysia; Tokyo (x2), and Osaka (x2), Japan.
