Polish Telco 3S has announced a new data center in Katowice that will double its current footprint in the city, and announced plans to expand in other major cities across the country.

Built on the existing complex next to its DC1 and DC2 facilities, 3S Data Center SA’s new DC3 facility is the company’s third in the city, located in southern Poland and to the west of Kraków.

The new data center is also its largest on the complex, measuring 2,200 sq m (23,600 sq ft) and taking the site’s total area to 4,400 sq m (47,300 sq ft). DC3 is due to come into operation in Q1 2023.

The company said it is also in the final phase of opening a new 750 sq m (8,000 sq ft) data center in Bytom, and plans on acquiring facilities in Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Wrocław.

“Grupa 3S is open to talks with the owners of DC-type facilities in cities where it has or plans to build its own fiber-optic network,” the company said in a statement.

“We have our own fiber optic network there [Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Wrocław] and provide telecommunications services, which is why we want to significantly expand our business and meet the needs of customers also in the area of IT infrastructure and cloud computing.”

Founded in 2011, 3S has six data centers across Katowice, Warsaw, Kraków, and Bytom.
