Panel discussion: How is the world of colocation adapting to carbon-negative ‘hyperscaler’ pledges?
We are currently witnessing quarterly press releases awash with the hyperscalers’ lofty ambitions and gargantuan strides to decarbonize their computing footprints. Whilst the builders of digital infrastructure are hard at work on sustainable efforts through use of PPA's, fuel cells and the creation of 'generator-less' data centers, the hybrid nature of their workloads means it can be difficult to track the overall environmental impact of the computing infrastructure stored outside of their proprietary data centers.
With this in mind, we are keen to unpick the role of colocation providers in tackling the climate emergency, all while balancing their corporate goals to increase profit margins and scale. How are the stewards of colocated compute contributing to the new green reality with and alongside their biggest clients? Are they doing enough to set the pace for decarbonization and which ESG strategies are being employed to help protect the planet’s precious resources?
