Vodafone Australia has started its switch-off of 3G services today, 15 December.
The operator, which is a subsidiary of TPG Telecom, has become the first in Australia to begin its switch-off of 3G.
Vodafone's license for its 3G spectrum is set to expire next year.
The telco states on its website that it will instead focus on its 4G and 5G mobile networks.
Rival telco Telstra will switch off its 3G network on June 30, 2024, while Optus is aiming for a September 2024 switch-off.
A number of mobile operators have switched off, or are in the process of switching off their 3G networks.
Earlier this week, Telia completed its 3G switch-off in Estonia.
Last month, Slovak Telecom confirmed the retirement of its 3G network, while Switzerland's Sunrise confirmed its 3G network will be gone by mid-2025.
Telia Finland kicked off its 3G network switch-off earlier this year, while its Danish and Lithuanian businesses have already retired their respective 3G networks.
In the UK, EE confirmed it will begin its 3G switch-off in January 2024, while Virgin Media O2 will switch off its 3G network in 2025.
