Australian real estate firm Stockland has filed to develop a new data center campus in Melbourne, Australia.

Victoria’s planning register notes that Stockland has filed for a planning permit to develop a two-story data center totaling 250MW at 412 Francis Street in Brooklyn.

The application was filed late last month. The 22-hectare site is currently home to the Brooklyn Distribution Centre, a warehouse development currently hosting 10 warehouses and office space, totaling 130,160 sqm (1,401,000 sq ft) of lettable space.

The data center will reportedly take up around half the existing site, replacing three large buildings. Timelines for development haven’t been shared.

In a newsletter, Stockland said the site was “one of the few areas in Melbourne with the right combination of zoning and capacity to connect to high-voltage power grids and fiber-optic networks that a data center requires.”

Founded in 1952, Sydney-based Stockland is one of Australia’s largest property groups, with investments spanning town centers, logistics developments, workplaces, master-planned communities, and land lease communities. Its portfolio is valued at AU$10.6 billion (US$6.6bn), and the company claims a pipeline value of AU$59bn (US$$41.6bn).

In February, the firm said it had secured power for ~350MW of data center development in Melbourne at Cherry Lane in Laverton and at the Brooklyn Distribution Centre.

Stockland has filed to develop two two-story facilities totaling 250MW at the Cherry Lane site, replacing a 20,000 sqm (215,280 sq ft) warehouse.

The company has several data center developments in the works around Sydney. Stockland has recently partnered with EdgeConneX for a development in the Macquarie Park area of Sydney, and has previously developed another facility in the same area.

The company has previously filed to develop a 168MW facility in the Kemps Creek area of Sydney. The company is targeting another project at 2 Davis Road in Wetherill Park – currently home to a distribution center.

In its most recent earnings results, Stockland said it has three data center projects included in the New South Wales Government’s Investment Delivery Authority (IDA) fast-track approval process – in Wetherill Park, Kemps Creek, and Macquarie Park – as well as three existing sites with secured power totaling 450MW.

The Brooklyn site was acquired in 2003. Tenants include BTI Logistics Pty Ltd, New Aim Pty Ltd, TFMXpress Pty Limited, and Carlins Automotive Auctioneers Pty Ltd.
