US data center firm EdgeConneX is finalizing its partnership with Australian real estate firm Stockland.
Stockland this week announced that documentation has been finalized to establish the Stockland EdgeConneX 50:50 partnership to develop, own, and operate an Australian portfolio of data centers. The deal will mark EdgeConneX's first move into the Australian market.
“The partnership will combine Stockland’s land, development, and project management expertise with EdgeConneX’s global experience in providing data center solutions to cloud and AI providers,” Stockland said. “The parties will leverage Stockland’s portfolio of assets in major markets across Australia for the development of hyperscale data centers.”
First announced in September, the partnership is looking to develop a 100MW+ data center at MPark Stage 2 in New South Wales. Further building details were yet to be provided. Construction could start in 2027.
Founded in 1952, Sydney-based Stockland is one of Australia’s largest property groups, with investments spanning town centers, logistics developments, workplaces, master-planned communities, and land lease communities. Its portfolio is valued at AU$10.6 billion (US$6.6bn), and the company claims a pipeline value of AU$59bn (US$$41.6bn).
The firm’s logistics portfolio spans more than 20 properties across New South Wales and Queensland.
Located in the Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID), MPark is a US$2bn mixed-use precinct - the company has previously developed a data center in an earlier phase of the park.
Founded in 2009, EQT-owned EdgeConneX has a global footprint of 80 data centers in operation or development across more than 50 markets across North America, Europe, APAC, and South America. The company was initially focused on smaller-scale data centers in the US, but has gradually expanded its scope and geography, moving into build-to-suit and hyperscale facilities.
Though present in APAC across Indonesia, Malaysia, India, China, and Japan, the company doesn’t currently operate any facilities in Australia.
