US developer Skybox Datacenters is expanding again in Texas, with plans for a campus in Wichita Falls.

As reported by local press, including News Channel 6 Now and others, the economic development agency Forward Wichita Falls this week announced Skybox as the developer of a planned project in the city.

Wichita Falls is a city, and the county seat of Wichita County, in Nothern Texas. It is close to the border with Oklahoma, between Oklahoma City and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Skybox bought a 225-acre property at the Wichita Falls Business Park from the city’s Wichita Falls Economic Development Corporation for more than $14.5 million in October via Texas Data Centers Campus LLC. The buyers reportedly have an option on another 125 acres.

The first 150,000 sq ft (13,935 sqm) building could be operational by late 2028, with up to seven buildings planned. A tenant hasn’t been secured, but Skybox is reportedly aiming to have one in place by the end of the year.

Skybox is a data center builder and operator, providing wholesale colocation, as well as turnkey, enterprise data centers and operations.

On its website, the Wichita site is listed as PowerCampus Texas, a 300-acre site offering up to 2 million sq ft (185,810 sqm) of data center space. According to Skybox’s website, the project is being developed in collaboration with Blue Owl.

The company has partnered with industrial real estate firm Prologis for multiple campuses in Texas (the Hutto and Pflugerville areas of Austin, and Dallas), as well as Virginia and Illinois (Chicago, since sold to HMC Capital). The company also previously sold a data center in Houston to Element Critical.

Skybox has other projects in Houston, Round Rock, and San Angelo, Texas, and in Santa Clara, California.

Two other data center projects have previously been planned in Wichita Falls, but the status of both is unclear.

Another project is being considered in the city. Last month, an application was filed to rezone 37 acres at 2100 & 2226 Airport Drive to develop a 98-acre data center campus in the city. Local attorney Brad Altman is looking to develop up to nine buildings totaling approximately 1.35 million square feet (125,419 sqm). The planning and zoning commission has recommended approval, but city councilors tabled the rezoning request at the February 3 meeting.
