US zinc battery energy storage firm Eos Energy Enterprises has partnered with Turbine-X Energy, a behind-the-meter gas-fired power infrastructure company, to develop and deploy power infrastructure for the AI data center market across the US.

The companies signed a joint development agreement (JDA), which envisions the development and deployment of up to 2GWh of Eos storage systems across a defined project pipeline over the next 36 months. Initial deployments of the systems are expected to commence in 2027.

The BESS systems will be paired with simple-cycle natural gas turbine generation, which the companies claim will create a fully engineerable power solution designed specifically for constrained, high-load environments such as AI campuses. The power delivery will be all behind-the-meter, which the companies claim will allow for faster power connections for data centers.

“Our customers need power delivered on accelerated timelines,” said Michael Warneboldt, CEO of X-Group of companies. “By integrating our generation capabilities with Eos storage, we can deliver a fully dispatchable, engineered solution that meets the scale and reliability requirements of hyperscale infrastructure. The JDA provides the structure and accountability to move quickly and execute.”

Turbine-X is an energy technology firm specializing in gas-fired power solutions for the data center market. It utilizes Baker Hughes NovaLT gas turbines, which have capacities ranging from 5.5MW to 17.5MW and are deployed predominantly behind-the-meter.

Based out of Edison, New Jersey, Eos is a BESS manufacturer specializing in zinc-based energy storage. Its flagship Znyth storage system is a long-duration battery designed for four to 16 hours of duration with a 25-year total lifespan. According to the company, it has several active commercial deployments across the US. The deal with Turbine-X would be the largest deployment to date.
