Singapore is set to host a 700MW data center park on Jurong Island.

The news was announced on Monday at the Singapore International Energy Week by the Minister-in-charge of Science and Energy & Technology Tan See Leng, who said that the facility would be “SIngapore’s largest low-carbon Data Center Park.”

The facility will span approximately 20 hectares, according to a joint statement issued by the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) and Singapore’s Economic Development Bureau (EDB).

This project will be a significant addition to Singapore’s data center market.

According to a report published by data center consultancy DC Byte in January, the country currently has around 1GW in live capacity, with around 500MW worth of projects under construction, committed, and in their early stages. The addition of a 700MW data center on Jurong Island would therefore increase Singapore’s total supply by approximately 50 percent.

This is especially striking given that the Singaporean government only began lifting its unofficial moratorium on data center developments in 2023.

This announcement was made in tandem with the introduction of the ‘Green Data Center Roadmap,’ which is the Government’s plan to use funding, tax incentives, and grants to incentivize developers to become more energy efficient and to use green energy.

It appears that operators using the 700MW facility will be able to draw on a series of energy projects as announced in the JTC-EDB joint statement. These include: the expansion of an existing battery storage facility, a solar deployment, hydrogen-ready power plants, and ammonia power generation.

Located off Singapore’s southwest, the man-made Jurong Island is known for hosting oil and chemicals facilities.
