Subsea cable firm FLAG is set to launch a route from Chennai to Singapore this month.

According to a FLAG spokesperson, the route was undergoing final readiness and operational acceptance activities last month.

FLAG currently operates a separate route from Mumbai to Singapore, which was launched in July 2025.

Mumbai is located on India’s west coast, whilst Chennai is on its east.

"Global connectivity is entering a more complex phase, where reliance on a small number of routes is no longer sustainable. Adding a second, geographically distinct path between India and Singapore is a deliberate step to strengthen long-term network resilience and control," said Paul Abfalter, FLAG’s chief strategy and revenue officer. "This route reinforces how FLAG is building a more flexible, multi-path architecture that allows traffic to be managed, protected, and rerouted as demand continues to scale across Asia and beyond.”

Subsea cable and data center operator Global Cloud Xchange rebranded to FLAG (Fibre Links Around the Globe) in April 2025. The firm offers capacity on the FA-1, HAWK, Falcon, MEDEX, FEA, IEX, and FNAL systems. The company also operates and/or offers capacity in cable landing stations in Taiwan, Japan, France, the UK, and the US. FLAG also offers modular data center services.
