At least eleven xAI employees have left the company this week, while half of the company's 12-person founding team departed in the past year.

The departures come after SpaceX acquired the company ahead of a planned IPO of the combined business, which founder Elon Musk says will be used to fund up to a million orbital data centers.

This week, co-founders Yuhuai (Tony) Wu and Jimmy Ba announced they had left xAI, joining co-founders Christian Szegedy, Igor Babuschkin, and Greg Yang, who left over the past 12 months.

The past two days have also seen a number of other xAI employees depart, including Hang Gao, Ayush Jaiswal, Vahid Kazemi, Shayan Salehian, Roland Gavrilescu, Simon Zhai, Richard Brien, and Chace Lee.

“It’s time for my next chapter,” Wu wrote in a post on X (which was merged with xAI in 2025).

“It is an era with full possibilities: a small team armed with AIs can move mountains and redefine what’s possible.”

Earlier this month, SpaceX announced it would merge with xAI in a deal that valued the smaller Musk business at $250 billion.
