Meta has signed a 144MW solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy in Texas.

The PPA is tied to the Starling Solar project in Gonzales County, with the plant's power supplied to the ERCOT grid rather than powering a Meta site directly. Construction at the solar site is currently underway, with commercial operations expected sometime in 2027.

As part of the deal, Meta will obtain exclusive rights to all environmental attributes associated with the project's energy, including its renewable energy credits. Full financial terms of the deal have not been shared.

The deal is the seventh between the two companies, with a combined capacity of 1.2GW. The agreements include a 61.6MW PPA in Virginia, a 200MW PPA in Texas, a 175MW PPA in Illinois, a 197MW PPA in Kansas, and a 224MW PPA in Iowa.

“We appreciate Apex’s partnership in helping us bring a total of one gigawatt of new renewable energy to the grid across Texas, Virginia, Illinois, Kansas, and Iowa. This new solar project will support our commitment to 100 percent renewable energy and will help bring jobs and investment to the local community,” said Urvi Parekh, head of renewable energy at Meta.

Meta has signed numerous PPAs across Texas to support its operations in the Lone Star State. Most recently, the firm signed a 220MW solar PPA with Sabanci Renewables. Before this, it signed a corporate PPA with RWE to offtake power from the under-development 298MW Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in northeast Texas.

Meta currently has operational data center campuses in Fort Worth and Temple, Texas. It is also developing a third in El Paso, slated for operations sometime in 2028.

Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, Apex is a renewable energy developer with a development pipeline of more than 25GW of projects. It claims to have commercialized more than 12GW of clean energy generation since its inception in 2009. The company signed PPAs with other hyperscalers, including Google, in January of last year.
