Indian data center firm Henox has detailed plans for a cable landing station in Gujarat and a data center in Tamil Nadu.

Cable landing station in Gujarat

Henox IT & Datacenters Private Limited, this week, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Gujarat and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) to develop a new cable landing station at Dhuvaran along with a dedicated high-capacity fiber route into GIFT City.

As part of the MoU terms, Henox will act as a strategic technology partner and be responsible for designing, building, and operating the cable landing station and terrestrial backhaul.

Further details on the planned CLS weren’t shared.

No cables currently land in Gujarat. Most cables on India’s west coast land in Mumbai, with some cables landing further south in Kochi.

The government of Gujarat signed an MoU with I Squared-owned network firm Lightstorm to develop the state’s first submarine cable landing station in October 2022, but the project’s status is unclear.

Data center in Tamil Nadu

This week also saw Henox announce plans for a 100MW data center in the state of Tamil Nadu.

As part of the company’s Project Horizon initiative, the company aims to invest Rs 50,000 crore ($5.5bn) in a data center, cable landing station, subsea cables, and solar projects across the state.

Further details on the projects, including location, specifications, or timelines, weren’t shared. Chennai is the main data center market in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Maverick Investments Limited, part of UAE-based Siraj Holdings Group, is backing the project and will initially be investing Rs 200 crore ($2.2m) in the data center.

Khadeer Peer Shariff, chairman of Maverick Investments, said: “Project Horizon is a watershed moment for the Siraj Holdings Group. Our Rs 50,000 Crore commitment with Henox reflects deep confidence in Tamil Nadu’s future and India’s digital expansion. We are laying the foundation for the state’s technological renaissance.”

Shaktivel K, CEO, Henox Data Centers, added: “This partnership brings together sustainable infrastructure, subsea connectivity, and AI-ready capacity on an unprecedented scale. Project Horizon is one of India’s most ambitious digital infrastructure initiatives and will unlock massive economic potential for the region.”

Henox said it launched an Edge data center in GIFT City earlier this year.

On its website, Hennox lists plans for data centers around India and Sri Lanka, though it provides few details. CEO and co-founder Sakthivel K. was previously at Middle Eastern telco Etisalat.
