Google first said it was investigating issues with Gmail at 6:29am BST (1:29pm EST) that stopped many users from writing emails or uploading documents.
"Our team is continuing to investigate this issue," Google said on its status page.
The disruption quickly became the second most popular trending story on Twitter, as thousands took to social media to complain about the problem. Outside of G Suite, numerous users are also experiencing problems when trying to upload videos to YouTube.
The ongoing issue comes just a day after Spotify saw an hour-long global outage, possibly because it forgot to update its TLS certificates.
Also this week, Equinix's LD8 data center was hit by a major outage, causing disruptions across the UK.
