A lithium-ion fire in a Digital Realty Singapore data center has been brought under control.
A fire alarm was triggered at its SIN11 data center at 7.45am local time on Tuesday, September 10. The incident was still ongoing the next day, with the local fire department reporting continued efforts to put out a lithium-ion fire on the third floor.
Though power was shut down to part of the facility, the fire has now been brought under control.
"The situation has been brought under control, and the SCDF has now declared the facility stable," Digital Realty said in an announcement today.
The colo firm said the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has conducted a preliminary evaluation of the building, identifying minor structural damage. The BCA has confirmed that the building’s overall structural integrity is not affected.
But, as a precautionary measure, the BCA has issued a Dangerous Building Order (DBO) and a Closure Order (CO) for specific areas of the facility.
"Digital Realty is complying fully with these orders and has commissioned a Professional Engineer to conduct a full assessment of the building’s structure," the company said.
Alibaba Cloud was amongst the impacted customers.
"As of 20:23 on September 11, 2024 Beijing time, the fire department is still addressing safety risks at the site, and operation and maintenance engineers are waiting for permission to enter the server building," Alibaba said in its last status update. "If the on-site assessment determines that physical conditions are not suitable for restoring services on-site, the emergency team will implement the server equipment migration recovery plan."
