Edged Energy has commenced operations at its data center in Barcelona, Spain.
Named "Merlin Edged Barcelona," the data center has a critical load capacity of 16MW and uses 100 percent renewable energy.
Construction of the facility was completed in the fall of 2023.
The facility also uses waterless cooling and operates at a PUE of 1.15. The data center's meet-me room is connected to the Barcelona Cable Landing Station which houses the 2Africa and Medusa subsea cables.
Customers will also have connections to Exa and Axent's networks across Europe and North America.
“We are proud to be part of Spain’s fast-growing digital economy and to partner with leaders in the data carrier, networking, and telecommunications industries to expand the region’s reach and connection opportunities,” said Bryant Farland, CEO for Edged. “Our customers can feel confident they are connected to a secure, high-speed, on-demand network with established redundancies that ensure their data can reliably and instantaneously reach markets in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.”
“We are seeing incredible growth and investment in IT and digital infrastructure across the Iberian Peninsula,” said Miguel Angel Acero, COO for Barcelona CLS. “The Barcelona Cable Landing Station is proud to be the area’s go-to connection spot, and we are honored to work with companies like Merlin Properties and Edged who are combining top-tier performance and global connectivity with innovative technology and sustainable design. The connection to the new facility was made possible thanks to Barcelona CLS existing redundant metro fiber ring, which adds significant network route diversity for the Merlin Edged data center.”
In addition to the Barcelona data center, an Edged representative confirmed to DCD that the company has recently launched a 20MW data center in Madrid, and a 22MW data center in Bilbao, the latter of which will eventually be a 100MW campus across three buildings.
Edged Energy is also expected to commence construction on a 100MW campus in Lisbon, Portugal, this year.
Edged Energy is a colocation and data center provider. Its Spain business is a subsidiary of Endeavour in collaboration with Merlin Properties. The company also has data centers in development across the US in Atlanta, Georgia; Kansas City, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; Irving, Texas; Mesa, Arizona; and New Albany, Ohio.
