US colocation firm DataBank is expanding its data center outside Salt Lake City, Utah, again.

The company this week announced another expansion of its SLC6 data center, building out a further 25,000 square feet (2,320 sqm) of raised floor space and 5MW of critical power.

The news follows a previous expansion announcement from October 2023 that was set to add 5,000 sq ft of raised floor space and 6MW.

Both expansions are set to complete in Q1 2024. Once the two expansions are finished, SLC6 will feature 88,250 sq ft (8,200 sqm) of raised floor space and 22MW.

“The SLC6 expansions sync with how the data center market in the Salt Lake area is expanding rapidly,” said DataBank VP of construction, Tony Qorri. “We’re ready to support large enterprises, software developers, social media platforms, and hardware manufacturers that need extra data center capacity to run their operations.”

First announced in August 2021 and opened in 2022, SLC6 is located at 14870 South Pony Express Road in Bluffdale.

The facility is on the DataBank Granite Point Campus and was the fifth and final data center on the campus. DataBank operates another data center in downtown Salt Lake City.

The company opened SLC5 in July 2020 and opened the data center’s third hall in May 2021. At SLC5’s opening, Martynek said plans were already being drawn up for SLC6, and the company has since said it intends to build a seventh facility in the city.
