Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) is reportedly looking to develop a data center in Visakhapatnam (aka Vizag), India.
Through an existing joint venture (JV) with Indian real estate firm RMZ Corp, the two companies plan a campus in Vizag, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
First reported by the Economic Times, the Andhra Pradesh government’s State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) approved the project last week.
The companies reportedly aim to develop a 1.25GW campus on 200 acres in Jagannadhapuram, Visakhapatnam. The first phase could go live by 2027.
RMZ Corp is a real estate developer in India, specializing in eco-friendly buildings and office spaces.
The company formed a joint venture with Fidelity-owned data center firm Colt in 2024. The $1.7bn JV was initially set to be focused on developing Colt’s existing sites in Navi Mumbai and Ambattur, Chennai, with the projects set to total around 250MW at full build-out.
RMZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government in June to invest up to $10 billion in mixed-use, digital, industrial, and logistics infrastructure projects across the state over the next five to six years.
RMZ first announced plans to move into the data center space in 2023 – with potential developments across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and the National Capital Region in Delhi.
Fidelity-backed Colt first announced plans to expand into India with a 10-building campus in Navi Mumbai in March 2023, followed by a site in Chennai. The first two buildings in Mumbai are live, offering 22MW.
Other developers in Vizag include Google, AdaniConneX, Tata, Digital Realty’s Digital Connexion, Sify, and others.
